About this lesson
A closer look
In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy threatened the densely populated U.S. East Coast. Writing as the storm approached, climate scientist Kevin Trenberth explained how natural weather set up a huge, intense storm, and how global warming added fuel through warmer oceans, a moister atmosphere, and higher seas. This lesson explores how climate change can make a single storm more dangerous.
